Material for stainless steel wire mesh is divided into four types:

Also, the texture of the wire mesh varies from fine, soft silky texture to as hard as steel, brass, bronze, phosphorous etc. The Wire Mesh with fine texture is available in circular and roll forms.

The raw materials used for weaving or manufacturing of stainless steel wire mesh is divided into different types such as Type 304, Type 304 L, Type 316 and Type 316 L.

Type 304:

Type 304 is often referred to as "18-8" because it has 18% chromium and 8% nickel present in it. T-304 is the most basic type of stainless alloy. It is most used for wire cloth weaving and has the capacity to withstand exposure upto 1400 Degrees Fahrenheit without getting oxidized or rusted. 

Type 304 L:

The Type 304 L material is a lot similar to T-304. The one main difference between the two is that reduced carbon content in this one for the better weaving.

Type 316:

T-316 is an "18-8" alloy and is stabilized by of 2% addition of molybdenum. It has good corrosion resistance strength than the other chromium-nickel stainless steels as it has more of sulphur-bearing water, brines or halogen salts like chlorides present in it. The other characteristics of the Type 316 is similar to T-304 but the only valuable and distinguishing feature of T- 316 is its creep strength at rising temperatures. 

Wire cloth woven of Type -316 has a wide use in chemical processing industries where more corrosion resistance is required than the regular chromium-nickel.

Type 316 L :
Type 316 L is almost similar to T-316 and the only variation is the low level of carbon content for smooth wire cloth weaving.
